About Us
Yuni and Matthew Kenwrick's family-run Indonesian restaurant, opened in 2014 in a heritage-listed church hall on the grounds of Northcote Uniting Church — enter via the bright red door off High Street in Ruckers Hill. Yuni cooks Javanese home-style dishes to order (no bain-marie curries) from a tiny open kitchen; Matthew runs the floor in a high-ceilinged room with optional courtyard seating among pomegranate trees. The menu spans tempeh mendoan, nasi campur, slow beef rendang, banana-leaf ikan pepes and Balinese bebek Bali, with a vegan-base laksa that the owners say a quarter of diners order. Free-range meat, MSG-free, strong vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free options; BYO. Dinner service Tuesday–Saturday 5:30pm–9pm (kitchen closes 30 minutes before end of service). As featured in Herald Sun's top 50 best value eats under $50; extremely limited seating (one table of six at a time per the homepage) so bookings are essential — online via AGFG or phone.
