About Us

Husband-and-wife owners Yong and Emily Liu run Yulongfu, a two-level Shanghainese steamed-bun restaurant on Bourke Street where passers-by can watch Yong pleat sixteen-fold xiao long bao through the street-facing kitchen window. Emily's family recipe was first written down in Shanghai in 1904; the Liu family also operates Yulongfu restaurants in Shanghai and Wenzhou, and Melbourne is their first overseas branch (SBS Food, Aug 2021). The menu centres on soup dumplings — classic pork, crab, and charcoal-skinned black truffle and pork — plus pan-fried pork buns (sheng jian bao), chicken and prawn wonton soup, drunken chicken, sweet and sour pork, roast duck and broader Shanghai-style plates for CBD office lunches and evening groups (Broadsheet; What's On Melbourne). The dining room seats about 130 across two levels with blond timber, birdcage lights and lime-green banquettes (Broadsheet). No standalone owned domain — facebook.com/yulongfubuns is the venue web channel listed on Google Maps and Waze; @yulongfubuns on Instagram for brand updates; menus on Uber Eats, PikMo and in-venue; walk-in dine-in.
