About Waku Waku
Waku Waku on Little Bourke Street is Melbourne CBD's pioneer of Hokkaido-style soup curry — a light, aromatic dashi-and-spice broth quite unlike thick Japanese curry, served with charcoal-roasted chicken leg, slow-cooked wagyu or tempura vegetables and rice or udon on the side. The compact dining room also turns out aburi flamed-grilled donburi, omurice, udon, karaage, mentaiko tamagoyaki and playful bites like the tempura-style sushi hot dog, washed down with Kimojo sodas and sake. Walk-in counter service in a cosy, modern room; queues are common at peak lunch.
