About Umberto Espresso Bar

Second-generation family trattoria run by Marco Finanzio and named for his Calabrian father Umberto, who settled in Thornbury more than 50 years ago. Opened in 2010 and relocated after a decade to a 100-year-old former shoe store at 917 High Street — a much larger venue seating about 200 across dark-wood dining rooms, La Galleria and Rosarno private function spaces, and seasonal Gigi Rooftop upstairs. The kitchen favours old-school homestyle Italian: house-made pasta, cotoletta, chalkboard specials that sell out nightly, and Tuesday $25 pasta-and-vino nights. Marco's sister bar Joanie's Baretto sits a few doors up High Street. Bookings via the official site; groups of 12+ use set menus through functions@umbertogroup.com.au. Google Maps lists the venue as operational (Jun 2026); official site and Uber Eats both publish current trading hours and accept bookings or orders.
