About Us
Udon Izakaya Maedaya is the casual CBD successor to Melbourne's original Maedaya izakaya on Bridge Road — a budget-friendly Japanese udon-and-izakaya on Bourke Street near Russell. Picture-menu udon bowls, donburi and izakaya small plates fill a lively, pub-like room with Japanese-speaking staff; noodles are Kyushu-style (boiled longer for a softer chew) in clear dashi, with vegan broth available on request per recent dine-in reports. Dengonnet's Editor's Pick highlights beef udon, yasai tempura udon and gyudon around $10–12; stone-pot nabe yudon, karaage, takoyaki and agedashi tofu round out the izakaya list. The bar stocks Kirin, sake (including all-you-can-drink sets on weeknights), umeshu and chu-hai. Walk-in dine-in and pickup only — no reservations; tight counter and table seating that fills quickly at dinner.
