How ratings workAbout The Abyssinian
Eritrean-born chef Rahel Ogbaghiorghi and partner Vittorio Silvestro have run this Racecourse Road institution since 2007, serving slow-cooked Horn-of-Africa food in a cosy room dressed with Ethiopian prints, straw walls and African music. The official pitch is communal injera dining — chef's platters for one to three diners pile stews atop spongy injera, and eating from the same plate is part of the cultural welcome (cutlery optional, licensed beer and wine). Time Out (Oct 2024) highlights mixed platter feasts, foul medames, goat with kemmam sauce, shiro bozena and kangaroo zighini; the 2023 dinner PDF lists berbere-forward zighini, dubba pumpkin, Nile perch asa kulwha and generous vegan platters. Dinner Mon–Sat 5:30pm–10pm; book by phone or the site contact form.
