How ratings workAbout Sushi Hotaru
Level-one sushi-train institution in Midcity Arcade (escalator up from Bourke Street), where a long conveyor carries colour-coded plates while each seat has a touchscreen to order fresh nigiri, temaki, sashimi, takoyaki and hot sides. The room is loud, fast and queue-prone at lunch — Japanese-speaking staff, bar seats around the belt and a few four-tops — with walk-in service rather than a dedicated booking site. Recent guest reports put standard sushi plates around $4.20 and sashimi higher; Time Out and regulars still single out soft-shell crab, grilled eel with cream cheese, and seared wagyu rolls. BYO with corkage is commonly mentioned in 2025 reviews.
