Samsam Chicken is the original Swanston Street outpost of a Korean fried-chicken-and-beer chain that opened in Melbourne CBD in December 2015. The narrow, student-heavy dining room runs QR table ordering and a visible robotic fry arm that keeps bone-in and boneless chicken crisp through peak service. Whole or half birds come sauced to order — soy and garlic with peanuts, sweet chilli, hot and spicy, cheese powder, soy and mustard, or lemon mayo — with pickled radish and coleslaw, plus wings, waffle chicken, stone bibimbap, kimchi fried rice and tteokbokki for anyone not ordering bird. Jugs of beer are part of the house culture; walk-ins only with queues common on weekend nights. This slug is the 209 Swanston Street CBD store only — the brand also runs Box Hill Central and other Melbourne sites under samsamchicken.com (former QV and Melbourne Central CBD counters are marked closed on the official site).
