About Us
Small, home-style Japanese cafe on Smith Street run by Osaka-born Yutaka “Matsu” Matsuda — Papirica is an Ainu word for a good harvest year. The ~30-seat room spans two dining areas and a courtyard with blue floorboards, mismatched furniture, plants, and personal knick-knacks (Broadsheet, Time Out). Matsuda’s Osaka-style okonomiyaki — batter with okra and potato instead of yam, house-made natural sauce and mayo — is the draw, with pork, seafood, vegetarian, and vegan builds plus mochi, cheese, or kimchi add-ons. Weekends bring omurice, rice porridge, and breakfast sets (Broadsheet menu Oct 2025); the supporting menu includes teriyaki chicken and nasu dengaku (vegan eggplant) sandwiches on house bread, soba noodle salad with konbu–shiitake dressing, matcha tiramisu, and Japanese teas. Counter-service, walk-in lunch cafe; official site papirica.net lists Wed–Sun lunch (Jun 2026). Legacy papirica.online returns 404.
