About Us

Bright orange Venezuelan diner beside Footscray Market from chef-owner Reveka Hurtado — a catering ghost kitchen that opened a bricks-and-mortar shop in early 2024. Hurtado previously built Venezuelan restaurants with her family in Chile before migrating to Australia; Papelón is pitched as a cultural hub for Melbourne’s Latin diaspora as much as a canteen. The Age Good Food Guide (Critics’ Pick, 13/20, updated Oct 2025) praises generous empanadas, tequeños with cane-sugar papelón syrup, colossal patacón platters, pabellón and arepas including reina pepiada, plus Peruvian lomo saltado and other border-crossing plates.
