About Nelayan

Nelayan on Swanston Street is the Melbourne CBD branch of Nelayan Group (est. 1997), billed on the official site as the original halal Indonesian nasi campur express in Australia. Hawthorn opened first on Glenferrie Road; this city shop sits opposite the QV precinct and trades like a warung — choose from a counter of pre-made nasi campur components (fragrant rice, halal meats, vegetables and sambals) or order cooked-to-order curries, grilled fish, noodles, geprek chicken and duck. No alcohol on premises (Halal Food Australia). Sister sites are Nelayan Hawthorn and Enak by Nelayan at 195 Lonsdale Street, a separate refined-dining concept with its own menu. Walk-in dining; expect queues at lunch and dinner.
