About Us
Komeyui is Chef Motomu Kumano’s Southbank Japanese restaurant — the larger, modern successor to his Port Melbourne original (2011, relocated mid-2020). The name combines kome (rice) and yui (knot), reflecting rice-led harmony at the centre of the menu. A 12-seat sushi counter with a visible hagama rice cooker and cold-stone nigiri service anchors counter-only Chef’s Seasonal Omakase and Omakase Lunch Classic; the 80-seat dining room offers kaiseki, Signature Lunch, Shokado bento, Omakase at Table, share plates and à la carte sashimi, charcoal-grilled wagyu and saikyo-yaki black cod. Kumano grew up in a Hokkaido fishing town, worked at Kenzan’s GPO offshoot, and treats each fish as a fleeting artwork served at peak flavour. Book via the official site (select Sushi Counter for omakase); walk-ins accepted but omakase booking is strongly recommended. Sunday 10% and public-holiday 15% surcharges apply. Google Places lists business_status OPERATIONAL at 181 Ferrars Street (Jun 2026).
