About Us

Since 1980 on Johnston Street, Jim's Greek Tavern is a Collingwood institution run by the Panagopoulos family — Leonidas (Leo) and Aphrodite, with their family still steering the room. White-washed walls, tight white-clothed tables and a boisterous open kitchen evoke a Greek coastal taverna: guests are not handed a menu; waiters steer the table through shared mezze (saganaki in a hot pan, house-made tarama, tzatziki and eggplant dips, pickled octopus) into charcoal fish such as whole pan-roasted snapper or King George whiting, lamb cutlets or skewers, Greek salad, and desserts including galaktoboureko, baklava and halva. BYO is central to the experience (Broadsheet also notes a licensed pour); the venue seats around 200, stays loud and convivial, and suits group celebrations. Phone bookings are recommended. Google Maps lists the venue operational with dinner seven nights from 6pm (Broadsheet updated March 2026); the official domain currently shows a “Launching Soon” placeholder and does not reflect live trading hours.
