About Us

Down Market Lane since 2008, HuTong Dumpling Bar is a three-level CBD institution named for Beijing’s hutong alleyways — a moody, lantern-lit dumpling house where you can watch chefs hand-fold parcels through the open kitchen before they hit the steamer or pan. The house built its reputation on Shanghainese xiao long bao (soup dumplings eaten with black vinegar and ginger), wontons in hot chilli oil, and pan-fried sheng jian, but the menu also roams into Sichuan (fish in hot chilli oil, kung pao chicken with peanuts) and Hangzhou (Dong Po square soft pork). Lunch and dinner run daily across split sessions; BYO wine is welcome and reservations by phone or Inline booking are strongly advised on busy nights. As of June 2026 Google Maps lists business_status OPERATIONAL, Uber Eats shows an active City store, and Menufyy carries December 2025 diner reviews — the venue reopened 1 May 2026 after a brief kitchen renovation closure (20–30 April). The HuTong group’s separate Prahran restaurant in the Cullen Hotel is a different venue — this Fork & Flag row is the original Market Lane city dumpling bar only.
