About Austrian Club Melbourne

Founded in Heidelberg West in 1944, Austrian Club Melbourne is a volunteer-run cultural club preserving Austrian music, traditions and Hausmannskost in Melbourne's north-east. Its public Bar & Bistro trades on weekends only: traditional mains such as Wiener schnitzel, schweinebraten and Frieda's gulasch, plus kaiserschmarren and apfelstrudel, served beside an Austrian-focused bar with Zipfer beer, Grüner Veltliner and schnapps. The main hall hosts live bands and community events (cover charges apply for non-members), while function rooms and gardens seat larger celebrations — a suburban club atmosphere rather than a CBD fine-diner, but genuinely Austrian in repertoire and hospitality.
