About Askal

Contemporary Filipino restaurant and bar in the former Shakespeare Hotel — a three-storey 1800s CBD building on Exhibition Street with capiz-shell chandeliers, an open kitchen, upstairs wine room, rooftop cocktail bar Inuman, and a Filipino-forward drinks program. Co-founded by chef John Rivera (Kariton Sorbetes, ex-Amaru/Sunda/Lume) with Carlos Consunji, Ralph Libo-on, Michael Mabuti and Dhenvirg Ugot; the name nods to asong kalye (street dog) as a diaspora symbol of resilience. The menu spans pulutan, meryenda, ulam and matamis with regional dishes, family-recipe influences, and set banquets (Feed Me, Bahala Ka Na, Piyesta). Bookings via OpenTable; parties of 8+ require the Feed Me menu.
