Ancient Memories Restaurant & Shisha is an Egyptian-cuisine dining venue on Lygon Street in Brunswick East, operating since 2009. The menu features authentic Egyptian dishes including Kebda Iskandarani, kofta, mixed grill, and the traditional Sahlab drink, alongside a licensed bar open until late. The venue also offers shisha on relaxed seating and hosts belly dance entertainment every Friday and Saturday night.

I tried the mixed grill of lamb, kofta, and chicken skewers with chips, salad, bread, and dip, but nothing really stood out for me flavour-wise. The one thing I did enjoy was the fakhfakhina, an Egyptian fruit salad drink with ice cream and nuts. My friends and I stayed on for shisha after our meal, and since it was a Sunday night, we missed the belly dancing show that’s usually on Saturday nights.
